Add a little color to your portrait. The eye tends to go to the lightest part of the photo so we want that to be your smiling face. If you have a very light complexion avoid whites or very light colored blouses or shirts that draw your eye away from the focal point.
Stay away from clothing with writing or large logos unless they are relevant to the photo such as a letterman’s jacket.
